I was very active when I was young. It was normal to ride my bike everywhere - to go on long bike rides (15 plus) miles to the state park; to the local park 2 miles away to play tennis; to friend's houses;... I walked to elementary, middle, and high school. I was in marching band and drill team. Then off to college where I didn't own a car and walked everywhere on a large university campus. I don't know at what point I got sedentary. Probably when I graduated from college and
Self talk. What runs through our thoughts. My mind races a mile a minute. All the time. Things pop in and out of my head - some good and some bad. Some pleasing to God and some not. I'm sure you can relate. What we let control our thoughts dictates a lot about us. Our outlook, our mood, our response to others, and even our actions. I was reminded of this at cardio rehab yesterday. The instructor said what we think about will affect our progress. When I am walking closely with
I am often reminded how much work the Lord has to do on me. He isn't finished yet - not by a long shot. I had hosted a women's group in my home for years until I found a much smaller church. There I joined a Thursday morning women's Bible study group and began to connect with the women at my new church. I was offered a wonderful job and sadly was no longer able to be a part of this group. This little church had Sunday School classes which I found to be quite large and not ver
Another post about small groups. This one is about communication. We all want to be on the same page. There are times you need to contact all the members of a small group. Besides the usual things like sending out the schedule, passing along information about an upcoming social outing, party or service project; sometimes we need to communicate with each other if someone needs immediate prayer, or had a major life event occur, or to clarify something we have been talking about
Fall Bible study groups are about to start up in churches and neighborhoods all over and I hope you consider joining one. They are life changing. Read Bible Study Groups about my experience with small groups. I have hosted a women's Bible study group for years and I have learned a few things along the way that I wanted to share. So this blog is kind of for you small group leaders or people who are thinking of starting a Bible study group or anyone interested. Bible study grou
I took piano lessons from the time I was in 1st grade through 12th grade. I used to be quite good and was the accompanist for choir and other high school music groups, playing for school musicals, for Vacation Bible School and church events, for graduation, and even once at a fashion show. I wasn't really naturally talented at the piano, but I was good because I practiced like crazy. It took time - lots and lots of time. I rarely play now and I'm not very good anymore. A coup
One of my students emailed me after class one day and thanked me for sharing the information. And she said, "I will be praying for you. I can't imagine Satan not attacking you for the interest you are stirring in our hearts for God's Word." At the time (a couple years ago before this website) I didn't feel under attack. Recently I do. I knew at some point some people who don't share what I believe would blast away. I jokingly refer to them as the 'crazies." Not that they real
I was home for break between the spring and summer terms of my sophomore and junior years at Penn State University. I had chosen to go to summer term so I could graduate early and marry my love as soon as I graduated. Problem was a month earlier he had told me he no longer loved me and had dumped me. My heart was shattered and all I could do was cry. I was 20 years old. My mother kept trying to talk to me about it, but I just couldn't. I wouldn't tell her anything. She knew I
Sometimes I think people think that Christians get together in our Sunday School classes or small group Bible studies and talk about hot topics like abortion, homosexuality, transgender people, politics, etc. We don’t. At least not the Sunday School classes or Bible studies I have been in. Those topics have come up on a rare occasion - maybe if it was on the news or something, but we are focusing on other things. So what are we talking about when we meet week in and week out?
You probably have questions about things that have to do with Christianity. Believe me. I relate. I pretty much was the Queen of Questions. I went to church and youth group every week in middle school and high school. I had accepted Jesus as my Savior and was a believer. I don't remember having too many questions at that point in my life. After college I married and my husband and I were too busy going out all the time and well, spiritual matters hardly ever entered my mind.
